Dear Readers,

The recent volcanic eruption in Iceland and the consequent major problems in European air transportation for over a week, with worldwide effects and impact, showed in a clear and dramatic way how powerless we are in the face of nature. A thought crossed through our minds: ‘How something happening so far, can produce so many changes to our daily lives? This eruption of Eyjafjallajökull, small in the global scale of volcanic eruptions, managed to bring most of global transportation industry to a sudden halt, while reminding us all that we, as inventors of the modern technology, sometimes seem to forget how vulnerable our inventions are when submitted to the natural state of being.

Our industry - the information and telecommunications - in its direction to always launch new products, technologies and applications, should re-examine its style towards the environment; heading towards an ecosystem friendly inventions. By small deeds made by each of us on daily basis, we can truly change the world. Using recycled materials, ecologically friendly products and biologically oriented ways of harvesting energy from the sun, wind or water, we have the keys to shape our tomorrow.

We at Net Technologies have made this decision, and are heading towards this direction. Apart of our environmental and social sensitivity, we are using “eco-friendly” methods and tools in our everyday work when implementing services or designing tools.

In this issue, Net Technologies’ newest tool for radio planning is being introduced for the first time. We also present our recent achievements, news and highlights of our work and as usual, scenes from our life.

Net Technologies’ Presence in the Gulf Area

Net Technologies is expanding and has opened a new branch office in Bahrain.The launch of this office is part of our strategic decision to strengthen our position in the area and enhance our operations throughout the Gulf region.

Marita Asunmaa, Business Development Manager of Net Technologies, comments on the new Bahrain branch office: “Opening an office is a very natural step for us after conducting numerous radio consultancy projects in the region. This area is very interesting at the moment. With the new office we want to give a signal to our clients that we are here to support them also in the future. By being close to our customers our whole suite of services will be more accessible to them.”

3G Network Modernization Project with Nokia Siemens Networks in
Cytamobile-Vodafone: Remote Integration Services landing to Cyprus

On December 2009, Net Technologies and Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) agreed to cooperate in 3G Modernization Project of Cytamobile-Vodafone. Cytamobile-Vodafone maintains the most significant market share of Cyprus’ telecom business. Nokia Siemens Networks is their selected vendor for the 3G network modernization project. Net Technologies scope for this project is the remote integration of 3G Base Stations and more specifically, the swap of the old Siemens Base Stations with the new NSN 3G Flexi Base Stations and the support of 3G HSDPA services in Cyprus.

Our Experience in Field Measurements for Oil and Gas Companies

“Conducting field measurements in extreme conditions is not an easy job” says Mr. Dimitris Antonopoulos, Net Technologies field engineer, referring to his experiences with Oil and Gas companies in the Gulf. For the planning and implementation of a communication network, the site survey and site inspection is one of the major tasks and prerequisite for successful project completion. The site survey results are used by a team of radio network planners and project management as the basis for the network design as well as for the procurement of the network equipment. After several years we have enjoyed a real winter in Helsinki, the capital of Finland. During the first month of the year the temperature was continuously under zero and several days even reaching -20 °C. This is very nice. In Finland we are used to these hard weather conditions and all the daily activities, such as transportation, communications, schools, public organisations etc. are working properly every day of the year.Read more
